Wed 11 Jun 2008 New high speed/ high tech conveyor system for NZ Quality Waters - Putaruru

CEO, Ian Riley set a very high specification for the new high speed P.E.T. – water-filling system. Ian was adamant that he wanted a dry working environment. He also insisted that there would be no water or line lube used to reduce friction between bottles and the conveyor chain, no dead plates, no line pressure which candeform bottles and definitely no areas where bottles can jam or hang up.

Rexnord HP8506 Mat-top belting was chosen for the automatic depalletising system because of its high performance characteristics, belt strength, 19mm pitch – enabling nose boards to be used and the perforated top drastically reducing the friction between the Mat and the bottles.

Fri 19 Sep 2008 Get the right product for the right job

When N.Z. Quality Water in Putaruru commissioned the construction of their new high-speed PET water filling system they wanted a thoroughly modern design with features to ensure fast, reliable and efficient conveying of their product. One of the key components was the MatTop drive.

Wed 1 Oct 2008 Extra compact bearing gives added benefits

To compliment the large range of plastic bearing housings already available to the canning, bottling and packaging industries, Rexnord Marbett has introduced a new range of compact pillow blocks. The narrow base incorporates an internal thread which makes them suitable for areas where limited space is available. Selfaligning bearings with shaft sizes of 17mm, 20mm and 25mm and housings fully sealed are now available through Maud Kirk. Read more

Fri 28 Nov 2008 Proven product reduces production costs

Worm-gear definition: an endless screw engages a spur-gear with spirally disposed teeth. The screw is called a worm, and the spur-gear a worm wheel – a much diminished but very powerful motion is communicated from the worm wheel.

The worm-gear is one of the oldest gearbox designs and remains internationally one of the most widely used, as they remain an economical option to produce.

Tue 10 Feb 2009 Locking bush speeds cleaning on food processing machines

The Micro Extrusion Line is designed to economically handle small production runs of extruded liquorice. As food machinery, cleaning is an essential requirement and the connection between the drive gearbox and rotary heat exchanger needs to be regularly stripped down. Having an economical solution in the ETP-Expressocking bush from Maud Kirk, this bush with single screw operation creates a cost effective connection that is very quick and easy to disassemble for cleaning.

Fri 27 Mar 2009 Chain - the answer to case conveying accumulation needs

Rexnord LBPHP 1503 MatTop chain is designed for handling cases and tray packs of cans, bottles, and almost anything else in a box.

LBPGP 1503 is the first product that offers rollers to reduce backline pressure and allow for very tight, smooth over the head transfers.

Thu 25 Jun 2009 Continued innovation increases efficiently

Two local companies’ close partnership managed to develop a machine – “The Zecante DL500 De-Labeller”. This machine was specifically developed for the use with straight-sided bottles in the wine industry but it appears that there may be a wider market covering glass jars and beer bottles.

With the introduction of self-adhesive labels, a major problem has risen in the removal of these labels and glue to allow product to be re-worked.

Fri 10 Jul 2009 Run dry accumulation - improves production

Wineworks in Hastings recently upgraded the back end of their main production line.
A new labeller has been installed to cope with the increased production requirements and the variation in customer labelling specifications. Maud Kirk has been instrumental in designing and supplying chain and conveyor components for the accumulation table which was installed prior to the labeller. Read more

Mon 3 Aug 2009 Replacement components for canning, bottling and labelling machines

Maud Kirk has recently introduced a range of components specifically targeting the replacement market within the canning, bottling and labelling industries.
With wet gum and self adhesive labelling machines, brush and sponge stations are often required to ensure that the labels are attached to the bottles or cans at the correct height and radial position. Read more

Fri 4 Sep 2009 Special retrofit increases production and operating life

Maud Kirk had been asked to propose a retrofit for the following application: a dryer conveyor belt to carry food ingredients.

Higher drying efficiencies were achieved. This was due to the correct selection of a specially designed and manufactured stainless belt and chain.
Maud Kirk’s ability to work with an international conveyor belt manufacturer enabled them to identify specific areas needed to achieve the maximum air flow for processing the product.
